Application of your theory. Our Clinical Lead Periodontal Specialist & Lecturer, Dr Joel Thomas, will undertake the Practical Day Session and guide you in-person to enhance your learning and understanding.

This module will give you an understanding of Flap Designs & Elevation.

Learners will be able to:

  • Understand the principles of flap designs
  • Understand the types of flaps designs used in implant dentistry
  • Gain an insight into Contrasting surgical approaches – Flapless vs Flap
  • Understanding the Pitfalls and complications of poor flap designs

This module will give you an understanding of Bone Augmentation Materials, the principles of GBR, Sinus Lifting and the techniques involved.

Learners will be able to:

  • Gain an overview and understanding of the Principles of GBR
  • Understand the Science behind GBR
  • Gain an Overview and Understanding of the different types of Bone Augmentation Materials
  • Gain an understanding of the Clinical Indications for the different Bone Augmentation Materials
  • Gain an insight and understanding of Sinus Lifting and the different techniques and process involved

This module will give you an understanding of Peri-implant soft tissue and the Biological Considerations.

Learners will be able to:

  • Understand the indications for peri-implant soft tissue surgery
  • Discuss biological considerations – peri-implant soft tissues vs periodontal
  • Understand the factors that influence soft tissue behaviour
  • Gain a better understanding of why adequate peri-implant soft tissues are important
  • Gain an insight into the optimal peri-implant soft tissue dimensions
  • Understand the available methods of soft tissue augmentation
  • Learn about the possible timings of soft tissue augmentation

This module will give you an understanding of Wound Closure and Suturing Techniques.

Learners will be able to:

  • Understanding on the importance of suturing
  • Understand the impact of suturing in Implant Dentistry
  • Have an overview of the Different types of suture techniques used & how to undertake them.
  • Understand the different types of sutures available
  • Understand the complications that can occur when suturing

This module will give you an understanding of the elements involved in Soft Tissue Surgery via Practical Application

Learners will be able to:

  • Undertake Flap Designs and Elevation for both Full & Split Thickness
  • Undertake Hands-on Exercises to learn the techniques for Periosteal Release and Tissue Advancement
  • Undertake Hands-on Exercises to learn the techniques for harvesting autogenous grafts – CTG & FGG
  • Undertake Hands-on Exercises to learn the techniques placement and stabilization of Graft Materials
  • Undertake Hands-on Exercises to learn Suturing Techniques using a range of materials

Dr Joel Thomas

BDS MFDS RCSEd MClinDent Perio MPerio RCSEd

Joel graduated from Bristol University following which he worked as a general dentist in Worcestershire. During this period, he became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, gaining his MFDS post graduate qualification. Joel’s passion has always been in surgical dentistry.

He therefore went on to gain two years’ experience as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Senior House Officer. He was later awarded a place on the Periodontal Specialist training (MClinDent) at Guy’s Hospital, London. During this four-year course, he also taught undergraduate students in the periodontal department and worked as a periodontist in multiple private practices around London.

Joel has published numerous articles and has presented his work at multiple national conferences.

As per regulations, in order to treat dental patients within the UK you are required to have a GDC registration.

If you are a dentist from the outside of the UK, you can still enrol on the course.

As the course does not involve treatment on live patients, it is not mandatory to be registered with your professional body for the course but advised.

To gain the most from the course, we advise that you are a dentist practicing currently.

The course is a Unique Blending Learning Programme – This involves both a Theoretical and a Practical Element.

Theoretical Element – This involves lectures which are provided and assessed online over the course of 4 Modules, within your individual portal.

Practical Element – This involves a Practical Study Day which will include Hands-On Sessions 

The Practical Element Involves Hands-on Exercises guided by the Clinical Instructor on Pigs Jaws.

During the Practical day you will:

The Implant Conneqt Postgraduate Short Course has been designed and specifically focused to teach the following dentists:

  1. Those who have little to or no experience in Soft Tissue Augmentation.
  2. Those who have previously undertaken a Course and require more Practical Experience to improve their confidence and competence
  3. Those who want a refresher in Soft Tissue Augmentation and to add it to their portfolio of skills.
  4. Those who are experienced Implant Clinicians and want to learn Soft Tissue Surgery Skills to add it to their portfolio

Yes.

As part of the Practical Day, there will be Hands-on Exercises to allow you to familiarize yourself with a range of biomaterials.

We will not be able to have every product available on the market but a fair range to allow you to understand the difference between materials and the handling capabilities when undertaking the Hands-on exercises.  

The Implant Conneqt Postgraduate Short Course in Soft Tissue Training has been designed and specifically focused to teach the following dentists:

  1. Those who have little to or no experience in Soft Tissue Augmentation.
  2. Those who have previously undertaken a Course and require more Practical Experience to improve their confidence and competence

Advanced augmentation is more complex both in terms of Treatment Planning and Surgical Treatment. This is not part of the day but if the Clinical Instructor thinks the group will benefit from this or we have time, we will aim to add this in ad hoc.

We currently use the Anthogyr Implant System.

As a responsible Education Training organisation focused on providing high quality implant training, at Implant Conneqt we decided to keep the implant system fixed within the course. The implant system is selected by the Clinical Leads and is based on the research that the implant is based on.

This doesn’t mean there aren’t any other systems with a similar quality product.

You can enrol anytime in the year and start anytime in the year. There is no set start date but you have 6 Months to complete the course from date of enrolment. (If your Practical Day is more than 6 months from the date of enrolment, it will extend to this date)

The Implant Conneqt Short Course has been designed and specifically focused to give flexibility to dentists, but also allow them to elevate their skills when enrolling on an Education Programme.

We do not offer a Finance Facility for Short Courses.

The Total Fee for the Implant Conneqt Short Courses would need to be paid in Full when enrolling.

The Fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

No.

You are advised to bring any cases with you if you would like to discuss them with the Clinical Instructor, but this is not essential.

We advise you to bring a Scrub Top for the day but this is not essential. We will provide Surgical Drapes and gloves for the day.

Dental Loupes are also advised to reduce strain and fatigue and improve your performance.

No. The Short Course and the Practical Day will not include any live patients. 

However, you will be required to have the correct level of Indemnity / Insurance to cover you for the when undertaking treatment on patients

The cost will be based on your relationship and record with your Professional Indemnity / Insurance.

As an Educational Organisation, we have no influence over this and cannot enrol you onto the Implant Conneqt Course without adequate Professional Indemnity / Insurance Cover.
